Freedom, 2017, Acrylic on Canvas, 3 x 3” •
FUN FACT
The bald eagle is a national symbol for the United States, recognized formally on the Great Seal in 1782, but serving as a spiritual symbol for native people for far longer than that.
This painting was created en plein air during Art Gone Wild (2017) at Zoo Atlanta and is one of my smallest paintings to date. It was created as a quick small-scale study of a bald eagle. I chose a more mystical background to speak to the symbolism of this species.
