Cecil the Lion, 2015, Watercolor on Paper, 9 x 12”

FUN FACT

A group of lions is called a ‘pride’ because lions were traditionally seen as regal and royalty in the animal kingdom.

This painting was created as a live painting demonstration during a street fair in New York. It was motivated by news surrounding the protected lion Cecil from Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, who at the time was lured and illegally hunted by an American dentist. I wanted to commemorate Cecil’s life and capture his impact through this painting.
